The perfect safari holiday in Lusaka
Explore a 'real' African city on a Lusaka stopover
Zambia’s capital city Lusaka sits roughly at its heart and is ideally located for access to all of the principal safari and tourist areas via an excellent network of internal flights. International access is easy as well, with a large number of connecting flights from cities across Africa and the Middle East, although are no direct flights from the UK.
A typical modern African capital, it is doubtful Lusaka will ever stand up as a tourist destination in its own right. However there are a number of perfectly good hotels, both from international and boutique brands in the heart of town and in the suburbs close to the airport, so for any visitors requiring an overnight stay there is plenty of choice.
For those looking to get out of town a little bit the Lusaka National Park, just 15km from the heart of the city offers a chance to see most of the Big Five animals including White Rhino. A visit to Lilayi Elephant Nursery also offers a chance to see the workings behind rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants from Kafue National Park.
