For those looking to explore Lower Zambezi National Park, Kutali offers an amazing opportunity for a rustic tented feel surrounded by all the action and your own stunning views across the river
Location
Tucked beneath a canopy of Winterthorn trees on a quiet island in the Lower Zambezi, Kutali Camp feels like a true secret. Reached by boat and game vehicle, it’s beautifully remote.
Rooms
With just five thoughtfully designed tents, Kutali is intimate, relaxed, and deeply comfortable. Each tent opens to sweeping river views, with proper beds, soft linen, and en-suite bathrooms that include flushing loos and traditional bucket showers. Guests love falling asleep to the sounds of the river and waking to birdsong drifting through the mesh walls.
Amenities
The shared lounge and dining area sits under the trees, where solar lanterns cast a warm glow in the evenings. Meals are homemade and hearty, served with care and a good glass of wine. There’s no Wi-Fi, which we find makes the experience all the more immersive.
Activities
This is a place for slow exploration. You’ll head out on game drives, track on foot with expert guides, canoe quiet channels, and drift along the river by boat. There’s also time to simply sit and watch - lion sightings, herds of buffalo, and rare birds often appear when you least expect them. We particularly recommend a morning canoe followed by a surprise bush breakfast.
Sustainability
Run by Tusk & Mane, the camp provides financial and logistical support to Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), funding essential anti-poaching patrols, ranger coordination, and wildlife monitoring in partnership with Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife. At the same time, Directors Luke Evans and Kyle Branch are deeply involved in training Zambian guides, helping raise professional standards and wildlife awareness in local communities.
