Baines’ River Camp offers the ideal combination of location and style with a superb range of safari activities and access to outstanding game viewing
Location
With the wilds of the national park on one side and the famous Mana Pools Reserve just across the water, Baines’ River Camp offers a beautifully peaceful base from which to explore Zambia’s Lower Zambezi. This is a place where nature truly surrounds you.
Rooms
There are just eight elegant suites and one family cottage, all styled in a classic safari-colonial aesthetic with high ceilings, king-sized beds, and generous en-suite bathrooms. We love the private verandas, perfect for watching hippos at sunset or enjoying your morning coffee with the river drifting by. Two suites even come with freestanding baths for a little extra indulgence.
Amenities
The main lodge is open and welcoming, with relaxed lounges, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, and a small but lovely library. Guests love cooling off in the riverside pool or unwinding at the spa, where treatments can be enjoyed in the comfort of your suite or out on your deck. Evenings often begin with a drink at the bar and end around the firepit under a sky full of stars.
Activities
Your days here are shaped entirely around you. Head out on expertly guided game drives, glide down the river in a canoe, or try your hand at tiger fishing. Walks through the bush offer a deeper perspective, and there’s birdlife in abundance. If you’re into photography or fly-fishing, the camp’s specialist-led experiences are a real highlight.
Sustainability
Baines’ takes its role in conservation and community seriously. Most of the team is drawn from nearby villages, and the camp supports a local farming initiative to reduce conflict with wildlife. Through Pack for a Purpose, they help supply the nearby Chiawa Clinic. As a platinum member of Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), Baines’ protects wildlife and habitat through anti-poaching units, environmental education programmes, and community outreach.
