Luxury eco-friendly Meru-styled tented rooms at remote Baobab Beach, north-west Madagascar
Location: Eden Lodge sits on the mainland coast opposite Nosy Be, on a stretch of golden sand known as Baobab Beach. It’s accessible only by boat, which adds to the peaceful, off-the-beaten-track feel. The lodge is perfectly placed for exploring the surrounding forest and marine reserve, with views across to Madagascar’s northwest archipelago.
Rooms: The lodge has just eight spacious Meru-style tented rooms set along the beachfront. Each is elegantly furnished with a four-poster bed, en-suite bathroom with shower, private garden-facing terrace and a beach-facing veranda. Two rooms are twin share. Every room includes a minibar, safe and its own massage table – ideal for relaxing in privacy.
Amenities: Eden Lodge runs almost entirely on solar power and was Madagascar’s first solar-powered luxury lodge. There’s no compromise on comfort: breakfasts are buffet-style, while lunches and dinners are à la carte and consistently praised. Massage treatments are offered on your private terrace, and every guest helps contribute to reforestation – a tree is planted for each stay.
Activities: From the small beachside activity centre, guests can set off snorkelling or take boat trips to the surrounding islands of the Nosy Be archipelago. Swimming is safe from the shore, and sightings of green turtles are common. Forest walks and wildlife spotting can also be arranged nearby.
Sustainability: Eden Lodge is a leader in sustainable tourism. Powered by solar energy, it operates with minimal environmental impact, employs local staff and supports ongoing reforestation efforts. The lodge blends sustainability with luxury in a way that feels both authentic and responsible.
