Golden Triangle Tours

Tucked up in the far north of Thailand, where the country meets Laos and Myanmar, the Golden Triangle is full of surprises. It’s a bit more off the beaten path, but we think that’s part of the charm.

The region has a rich, layered history—once known for its opium trade, now better known for its cultural diversity and peaceful mountain landscapes. If you’re curious about the past, the Hall of Opium Museum is well worth a visit. It’s surprisingly moving and really well put together.

You’ll find a mix of cultures here, from Thai to Lao to Burmese influences, and we love how it all comes through in the food, the festivals, and the way of life. Expect colourful local markets, friendly hill tribe communities, and beautiful handmade textiles you’ll probably want to take home.

There are some lovely temples dotted around too—Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple) is the big showstopper, but we’re also fond of the quieter ones like Wat Phra That Doi Tung, especially for the views.

If you're into nature, this area delivers. You could start your day watching the sunrise from a mountaintop at Phu Chi Fah and end it drifting along the Mekong, passing bamboo villages and forested hillsides.

Food-wise, it’s a bit of a melting pot—think spicy Thai curries, Burmese-style tea leaf salad, and all sorts of fresh herbs and flavours you might not have tried before.

It’s the kind of place that rewards slow travel, and if you’re keen to see a quieter, more authentic side of Thailand, we think the Golden Triangle is a great shout.
