Location: Rufiji River Camp is located in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve, on the banks of the Rufiji River, a prime location for game viewing. The camp offers guests front-row seats to the constant flow of wildlife coming to the river to drink, including hippos and crocodiles, making it an excellent spot for observing the area's rich biodiversity.

Rooms: The camp features 20 comfortable tents, each equipped with cosy beds, walled en-suite bathrooms, and mosquito netting. January

January is mixed when it comes to weather, temperatures rise whilst the chance of rain and humidity increases. It is still a good time to go, as the rates are lower yet the game viewing is still excellent.

During this time migratory herds are in the Serengeti for calving season, meaning the Ndutu plains are busy.

February

The weather remains hot with a chance of rain in February.

Meanwhile in the Ndutu Plains the migration is still occurring.

March

March is the calm before the storm, before heavy rains and humidity builds. Visitors can take great advantage of lower rates during the low season.

Migrating herds start to leave Ndutu, heading West towards Grumeti.

April

April experiences continued periods of heavy rain, we would advise against travel due to the conditions.

May

During may there is periods of heavy rain, we would advise against travel due to the conditions.

June

June heralds the wet season, bringing lush green vegetation which can make spotting game more difficult. It is a particularly great time for birders as parks become populated by migratory birds especially in the South.

Migration is still in the Grumeti area, heading north.

July

July is the start of peak season, temperatures reach up to 30 degrees and the surrounding land becomes drier and spotting game is becoming easier.

The migration is in the Northern Serengeti moving towards Kenya.

August

August is peak season, with bush land drying out game spotting becomes much easier. If you want to experience Tanzania game at its best, August is the time to travel.

The migration still remains in the north.

September

Peak season continues in September, the Northern circuit can be very busy, if you want to avoid crowds it's best to visit the southern parks.

The end of the migration is still in the north with herds on both side of the Kenyan and Tanzanian borders.

October

Peak season continues into October with good game viewing in the Serengeti and southern parks.

The migration has now crossed over into Kenya.

November

November is the start of the rainy season, the rains tend to be overnight so it is still a popular time to travel. During this month you can take advantage of low season rates.

Migration crossing over into the Serengeti can be seen a the Tanzania and Kenya border.

December

Rains continue in December, whilst the temperature and humidity start to build. Venturing out on safari is generally good, with large game still easily spotted.

Migrating herds in the north travel south back to Ndutu.

From the initial contact with Ruth at Far & Wild it was very clear that this is a business that really listens to and cares for its customers. The communication all the way though the process from choosing to booking and the subsequent comms leading up the start of our holiday was flawless. We had an amazing 5-day safari at Garonga MCH in the Makalali Game Reserve in South Africa. A real hidden gem we would never have come across without Ruth’s knowledge. We followed this up with a 4-night stay in Cape Town. We arrived at our hotel in Cape Town and immediately knew that we had made a mistake in choosing this particular roost and that this was not the hotel for us. No fault on F&Ws part as they had followed our brief and we choose the hotel, but it just wasn’t right for many reasons I won’t detail here. As we had also got engaged at Garonga the comedown was, for us, huge. We rang the emergency UK number, at what would have been 4pm on Sunday UK time, and Alistair answered immediately. He listened, empathised, understood and said they would help us to change hotels. I had a message from Ruth first thing Monday morning with half a dozen different options. By 5pm on Monday we were nicely ensconced in a wonderful new hotel that suited us perfectly and enabled us to finish our trip in style. Amazing service! We will be using F&W to research and book our honeymoon without doubt!

Alistair, Just wanted to thank you and the team for organizing a fabulous trip for us to CT and then Mala Mala. Your recommendations for CT were perfect, we visited: Stellenbosch - Ernie Els winery Cape Point and Penguins Table Mountain Downtown V&A All were fantastic, would highly recommend all 4 to anyone. Also the Marly in Camps Bay was outstanding! Mala Mala was also phenomenal, the buildings were more authentic than contemporary, food and service excellent and the game drives were in a different league. We saw the big 5 daily as well as many other exciting creatures in their natural habitats. Cannot thank you and the team enough!

Fair & Wild organized a trip for a group of 18 people, mostly in their late 70s and of varying levels of activity. It was flawless. Every airplane (6 of them) was exactly where and when expected. Every driver was on time and helpful. The two game drive camps (El Karama and Saruni Eagle View) were superb, comfortable and excellent value for money. I would definitely work with them again. Extra logistics (suitcase retrieval from Nairobi hotel) were also provided flawlessly.

With only 6 weeks notice...Far and Wild did a brilliant job planning our dream honeymoon; efficiently organising a 10-day trip to Kenya. Having never been to Africa before, it did not disappoint, from safari in the Maasai Mara to relaxing in Shela, Lamu and finally at Manda Bay - all communication throughout the planning was clear and informative with questions answered promptly. They understood what were hoping for and curated the trip perfect for us. From the moment we arrived in Nairobi, we felt relaxed knowing all logistics were in hand, leaving us to take it all in and enjoy. First, we stayed at Saruni Basecamp, a luxury camp overlooking the river Talek, recommended by F&W with excellent food, hospitality and a very knowledgeable safari guide. Our transit to the coast was very easy, 2 short flights via Nairobi to be greeted by hotel representatives at both Kijani and Manda Bay, a short boat ride to both. F&W provided all information of travel and timings via an app, which ensured we knew where to be and when. It also helpfully included a packing list and important contact information. I have just returned from the remote South Atlantic Ocean island of St Helena. It was a wonderful experience and comes highly recommended. St Helena has a unique climate and consequently a very diverse landscape. The island offers its visitors great walks and a chance to enjoy nature at its best. From the outset the team at Far & Wild ensured they really got to understand what we, as a family, were after from our holiday to Kenya & Zanzibar. They gave us fantastic advice and despite the fact we were booking relatively late in the day managed to secure us perfect options. El Karama in Laikipia Kenya blew us away on every level. The game viewing was exceptional with the backdrop of stunning & varied landscape, the people so kind & knowledgeable and lodge beautiful with exquisite food. It was the perfect place to take children with plenty of activities between drives to suit all ages, especially the 4x4 driving on the airstrip! We also spent an unforgettable night fly camping. Zanzibar was just the white sands down time we were after, we did not want a resort experience and Pongwe Beach delivered. Adding on half a day & night in Stone Town gave a bite size nugget of culture. Our final safari stop at Saruni Wild gave a complimentary but different safari experience with game viewing in large numbers, sleeping with wildlife wandering past our incredible tents set on the edge of the wild open plains. It was all topped off with being lucky enough to watch the migration. Lifelong memories made, ensuring our children left with a piece of Africa in their hearts. We will definitely be back for more Far & Wild Experiences.

Hi Ruth & Louise Thank you so much for putting together the absolute holiday of a lifetime! It really was everything we hoped for and more. We were so pleased that we chose Eco and conservancies, definitely something very important to us. Accommodation was superb at Lewa House, hosts Jonty &Sarah were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so friendly and so knowledgeable, our guide Josephat was just wonderful, constantly making sure we saw everything and got great camera shots! While Saruni Wild was just a dream! Listening to hyena, elephants and lions after dark in our fabulous tented accommodation. Again all the staff could not do enough for us, every need was attended to even sets of wellies available in our tent in case of rain! It was lovely to have the opportunity to talk with Masai and Samburu staff who would talk about their cultures, their dress, and dance with them around the evening fire. The two very different areas provided a wealth of different terrain, landscapes and animal sightings, along with time in Nairobi, we really feel we experienced Africa. Thank you, your experience certainly delivered exactly what we hoped our holiday would be.
