Overlooking the Laikipia Plateau
Open walls and private verandas face out over the river gorge 150 feet below.
Sabuk Lodge is a stunning wilderness destination, perched on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Northern Frontier District of Kenya, overlooking the Laikipia Plateau and Samburu land. Sabuk was fashioned out of the local landscape, with local materials, twisted wood and stone boulders incorporated into the architecture.
Perched high on the riverbanks, Sabuk’s six cottages are open at the front with stunning views of the river and cliffs. Each thatched rondavel (circular cottage) has its own unique design, crafted from local stone and ancient cedar and olivewood, gathered from the local area. En-suite bathrooms, modern flush toilets and a private veranda with a view make each cottage a haven. There is a swimming pool and you can also take a refreshing dip in the river. Perfect for family time, there is ‘Eagle’ cottage accommodating up to six persons in two bedrooms (one an exciting triple bunk), with a sitting room and a pool too.
Activities include day and night game drives in 4-wheel drive vehicles, guided walking safaris, camel assisted walking safaris (anything from one morning up to two weeks). From Sabuk Lodge you can also try river fishing, fly camping, rock and artefacts hunting, bird watching, horse riding and photography. For clients spending 3 or more days this is the perfect start and finish to a camel assisted walking safari. Walk with a professional safari guide and a team of trained Laikipiak Maasai warriors as your guides through completely deserted tracts of wilderness: no other tourists, no roads or vehicles, only wildlife and their tracks, breathtaking scenery, the sounds of the bush, just Africa.
