I’ve always been a bit obsessed with the Indian subcontinent, a region in which I’ve lived, worked and travelled to almost every corner. I first caught the India travel bug from a stint teaching English in a Himalayan monastery, which inspired me to see the whole country and led to two more long rail trips around India exploring as much as possible...and a Masters degree from Edinburgh in Religious Studies, focused on Indian religions. Still keen for more I then worked all over India setting up volunteering projects, as well as planning group adventures in the Himalayas and out in the deserts of Rajasthan. Along the way I somehow managed to acquire a wonderful Indian wife (who is also working with us now), and a grasp of Hindi just about good enough for haggling. Before joining Far & Wild I was combining my academic background with my travel expertise in planning spiritual/religious/yogic pilgrimages from the UK to India. It’s great working here and being able to use my expertise to make genuinely brilliant Indian & Sri Lankan travel experiences for everyone.
My Expertise - Anything to do with history/culture/religions I will be able (and happy!) to help you with. I know all of India and Sri Lanka but the parts I love best are the remote areas like the North East India, and anywhere off the beaten track. I also love the crazy big cities – my faves are Colombo, Delhi, Kolkata & Mumbai. Experiences – Train travel, holy sites, historical places, walking, cycling, Indian music, food!

MY TOP TRAVEL MOMENTS
Meeting the Dalai Lama and getting him to sign my passport!
Waking up to blue skies, and snowy mountain views, at Kedarnath Temple in the Himalayas.
Seeing more stars than I ever knew existed in the night sky above the source of the River Ganges. Magical.
WHERE I'VE BEEN RECENTLY
I just got back from my fifth visit to Sri Lanka, which was an amazing whirlwind tour checking out some of the best hotels and activities. This was a bit more active than my previous trip which mostly involved relaxing on the beautiful beaches along the southern coast. No matter how often I travel here, there's always something new to discover, and I can't wait to return again.
