La Maison de Anand, despite sounding French, is actually an Indian family-run homestay in a traditional bamboo cottage on stilts.
Welcome. As is typical of the homes on Majuli, the world’s largest river island, houses are built on stilts to protect against flooding. Do not come here expecting a hotel stay, but do come expecting warm hospitality and an authentic experience of life in a traditional Assamese village.
Arrive by boat in Majuli Island on a local boat, which is an experience in itself as you will be travelling along with local people and their cattle and livestock. During your stay here you can explore the area by cycling, visit Vaishnavite monasteries and see local pottery making and artisans crafting masks from clay and bamboo.
