Tues 3rd Sept: Welcome to the Chocolate Islands

The tropical island of Sao Tome

Arrive on Sao Tome during the early evening and transfer to Omali Lodge, an elegant boutique hotel where you'll be spending the next couple of nights.

Enjoy live music with your dinner this evening.

Weds 4th Sept: Cacao plantations and chocolate factories

Spend the morning visiting Roça Diogo Vaz, an historic cacao plantation in São Tomé that dates back to 1880, located in stunning tropical landscape between the volcano (Pico São Tomé) and the Atlantic Ocean.

After an al fesco lunch, harness your inner Willy Wonka and head to the Diogo Vaz store and chocolate factory to see what goes on behind the scenes, and start learning about the chocolate story of Sao Tome and Principe.

Overnight at Omali Lodge with a themed dinner at the pool bar, as well as live music and dance.

Thurs 5th Sept: Fly to Principe

This morning you'll take a short charter flight from Sao Tome to.Principe, and transfer to Sundy Praia, a luxury tented lodge on the wild northwestern tip of the island. You'll be spending the next 5 nights here.

This afternoon there will be an introduction to the history of chocolate "From Tree to Truffle" followed by a plantation tour to see the ruins at Ribeira Izé, the first capital of Principe. Next up is a workshop with Joanne Harris on how to write more effectively about food.

Tuck in to a tasting menu for tea, before heading to bed to dream about chocolate.

Fri 6th Sept: Chocolate massage and writing workshop

After a leisurely breakfast those who didn't take part in the writing workshop yesterday with Joanne Harris will have the opportunity to do so this morning.

Enjoy lunch at Sundy Praia followed by a Chocolate Massage Ritual at the Wellness Centre.

Tonight's themed dinner will be hosted by Claudio Corallo at the OCA Sundy Restaurant. Claudio has 40 years of experience producing coffee and chocolate in both Africa and South America, and has worked in Sao Tome and Principe since the 1990's.

Sat 7th Sept: Visit the home of the 'Best Chocolate in the World'

Musical entertainment at Roca Sundy

This morning you'll visit to the cacao plantation owned by Claudio Corallo, whose 'bean to bar' chocolate has been voted the best in the world.

After lunch at Roça Sundy Hotel there will be another workshop, this time learning about the chocolate process at Roca Sundy's Chocolate Factory.

You'll have free time to discover the tropical surroundings of Roça Sundy this afternoon, before enjoying a local dance performance, and of course dinner.

Sun 8th Sept: Snorkelling, hiking or yoga - it's up to you

This morning David Greenwood-Haigh will lead an action of Social Responsibility for the children of Principe: learn all about Chocolate fair-trade on the island.

The rest of the day is at your leisure, with opportunities for diving, snorkelling, boat trips, hiking, yoga and canoeing.

This afternoon there will be a Booktail signing at Sundy Praia Pool Bar with cacao tea, and the presentation of “The Strawberry Thief”, the new book by Joanne Harris

Mon 9th Sept: Learn how to make your own truffles

Joanne Harris will run another workshop this morning, this time on how to bring a sense of place to your writing. Alternatively, join David Greenwood-Haigh and learn to make your very own truffles. Both workshops run again during the afternoon so you can take part in both if you wish.

This evening is all about a Sensorial Dinner hosted by Joanne Harris, David Greenwood-Haigh & Sundy Praia’s Chef.

Tues 10th Sept: Wave goodbye to chocolate heaven

Spend your last morning exploring the local area before taking a charter flight from Principe back to Sao Tome.

Lunch will be at Omali Lodge, before an evening flight home after a truly special holiday in the world's greatest chocolate paradise.
