Sakatia Lodge

A good value coastal property, just removed from the bustle of Nosy Be but still within easy reach (15 minutes by boat and a 45 minutes’ drive from Chanty Beach on Nosy Be to Fascene Airport), this family-owned-and-run lodge on the southern-side of the island of Nosy Sakatia is a firm favourite with underwater enthusiasts.

The 11 bungalows include two villas and a family bungalow with a double bed and two single beds. The four Ravenala bungalows are our entry level bungalows of choice (we feel the Mango bungalows are too small and rustic). The rooms have a simple design and décor, with en-suite bathrooms and a private terrace. All have hot and cold running water and a ceiling fan; the beachfront villa is air-conditioned. Electricity is available between 9am and 2pm, then 5pm and 1am. The beach is tidal, with a permanent sandy area around the lodge providing a great place to relax throughout the day. Meals are superb with very generous portions. There is an open-air restaurant and bar area. Breakfast is in buffet form and the dinner menu is set. Produce is locally sourced and organic.

An excellent dive centre is run by instructor Jacques Vieira (son of Jose, the owner and husband of manager Sandra). It offers NAUI dive courses and fun dives at known sites on the local reef and further afield in the archipelago. Excellent snorkelling can also be enjoyed off the beach in the local reef – the seabed shelves very gradually there.
