An archipelago of tropical volcanic islands just five miles off the north west coast, Nosy Be is the country's best-known beach venue, and a popular destination to relax in after busy itineraries touring around Madagascar. The climate here is exceptionally comfortable and visits here can be enjoyed year-round. Accommodation ranges from large, all-inclusive Italian-run resorts that occupy some of the best beaches, to smaller, boutique hotels and guest houses, often on their own beautiful stretch of sand.
Nosy Be is the largest, and liveliest island in the group, whilst Nosy Komba is the quieter little sister, a tranquil haven with lovely guest houses nestled into the lush greenery surrounding the local village, and not a road in sight. We suggest splitting your time between the two islands to enjoy the best of both worlds, with a leisurely speedboat ride as a transfer.
For those looking for upmarket hotels on a luxury Nosy Be holiday, we highly recommend Constance Tsarabanjina (on Nosy Tsarabanjina), and Tsara Komba (on Nosy Komba). They're some of the best places to stay on Nosy Be, and both are stylish, with some of the best accommodation and service in the archipelago. Further afield and accessible either by light aircraft transfers from Nosy Be or by speedboat, is Nosy Saba, set in an extensive marine and land park which encapsulates Sahamalaza National Park.
The capital of Nosy Be is Hell-Ville, named after a French admiral, and whilst worth a half day visit, it’s not really worth spending too much time here. The island has an international airport with good flight connections to Europe, so it’s a good place to either enter or leave the country.
