Explore the photogenic Masai Mara with a specialist photographer guide - 27th April to 3rd May 2019
Spend a week in the stunning Masai Mara on a 6 night photography safari hosted by renowned African wildlife photographer, Paul Joynson-Hicks. Hone existing skills and learn new ones in this photographer's dream destination, including back-lighting, higgling, panning, silhouetting, and taking the perfect wildlife portrait.
Having spent 25 years living and working in Africa, with widely-published imagery including coffee table books and exhibitions, Paul knows a thing or two about capturing that perfect shot, and will guide you through the week. He's been involved with numerous enterprises, such as the world acclaimed Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, in partnership with The Born Free Foundation, and is a keen conservationist.
You'll be staying at the gloriously exclusive Governors' Private Camp on the banks of the Mara River, situated in one of the premier wildlife destinations in Africa. With just 8 accommodation tents, each with ensuite bathrooms, electric lighting and charging facilities, a stay here is all about peace and privacy. The food is amazing too!
This is an exclusive safari, with only 6 places available, and maximum 3 people per safari vehicle, to ensure excellent one-on-one time with Paul.

Day 1: Off on an adventure
Depart on an overnight flight, ready to start your safari tomorrow.
Day 2: Welcome to the Masai Mara
On arriving at the airport this morning you'll be greeted by a Governors' Camp driver and transferred to Wilson Airport for your bush flight to the Masai Mara. Enjoy an aerial safari on the way! You'll be met at the airstrip and taken for a short game drive before arriving at Governors' Private Camp for a refreshing welcome drink.
Welcome to your home for the next 6 nights.
Day 3: The photographic safari begins
It's an early start this morning to make sure you're out on the Mara plains for sunrise - the light at this hour often produces some of the best shots. Spend the morning out on safari with Paul, looking for photo opportunities and learning how to capture the image you want. Enjoy a bush breakfast picnic out on the plains.
Back at camp a delicious lunch awaits, followed by more photographic opportunities during the late afternoon. Compare pictures around the campfire before dinner and fall asleep wondering what tomorrow will bring.
Days 4 - 6: Capture that perfect shot
The days out on safari are all about learning new photographic skills, and Paul will give one-to-one training to each participant, guiding their individual needs accordingly. The timings of the day will vary depending on the wildlife activity and photography opportunities presented.
There will be bush breakfasts, sumptuous lunches, surprise sundowners and even a bush dinner on one of the evenings. Each night the group will have a review session of the day's images to further assist with your photography skills and knowledge, in the pursuit of capturing that perfect shot.
Day 7: Competition time!
Every good photographic safari needs a bit of friendly competition, so after an action-packed day of safari photography, on the last evening you'll enjoy a fun contest to choose the best photograph from the safari. Over a lamp-lit dinner discuss what an incredible journey you've had here in the Masai Mara, and what new skills you have learned.
Who knows, maybe you'll have taken a potential winning photo for the next Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
Day 8: Homeward Bound
It might be your last day in the Masai Mara but there's still time for a morning game drive. After breakfast back in camp you'll head to the airstrip for your bush flight back to Nairobi, where a Governors' Camp driver will meet you and take you to the international airport for your flight home.
Day 9: Time to start uploading those photos
Arrive back in the UK after your night flight and after all the unpacking and washing has been done, sit down with a well-earned cuppa and start going through all the photos you took. Almost as fun as the safari itself!
