Tucked into the hillside
On arrival, guests are immediately struck by the peace and tranquillity of the grounds – a lush oasis teeming with colourful bougainvillea.
Situated near the base of Mt. Kenya – Africa’s second tallest mountain and overlooking Lewa’s Eastern Marania Valley. Lewa Wilderness is one of Kenya’s major private conservation successes as one of very few ranches in the world where guests can see a remarkable variety of wildlife, including many endangered animals such as both black and white Rhino species, Grevy’s Zebra and Sitatunga. The Craig family has passed down from one generation to the next a distinct passion for wildlife, conservation and tourism, and they proudly continue to run Lewa Wilderness lodge. By staying at Lewa Wilderness, guests are automatically supporting the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and all the conservation and community development efforts.
There are nine rooms in total located within six authentic stone cottages blending into the bush perfectly. The rooms are enormous, beautifully decorated and each has an en-suite bathroom as well as cosy sitting areas. The Garden Rooms are the original rooms and are perfect for families as they are located close to the swimming pool and the camp’s other main facilities. The Hillside Rooms benefit from private verandas with wonderful views across the valley.
At Lewa Wilderness, game viewing is not just done by vehicle on day and night game drives. Guests can choose to explore this beautiful area on horseback, guided walks, scenic flights, or even by camel. Walking Wild is a camel safari outfit based out of Lewa Wilderness. Guests spend the days walking, whilst the camels and Masai transport the camp, meeting up each evening for unforgettable nights camping out in the bush. There is also the chance to enjoy some fly-fishing, visiting waterfalls and forests, or simply choose to relax in camp and laze by the pool for the day.
