Shinde Camp

A luxurious tented camp in the North of the Okavango Delta

The camp is situated on a palm island at the edge of a lagoon.

In the heart of the Northern Okavango Delta, Shinde camp offers the perfect opportunity to see Botswana’s native wildlife, whether it be from a vehicle or a boat.

Nestled amongst the open flood plains and the mysterious waterways of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, the location of Shinde is truly stunning. The camp itself is situated on a palm island at the edge of a lagoon and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Shinde also gives guests the opportunity to see the various animal species native to the area.

Shinde was rebuilt in 2020. Shinde is an iconic camp, one of the first in the Okavango Delta, and loved by many. The new Shinde pays homage to its former self retaining the authentic classic safari style. The new tents and main area provide a luxury experience with a touch of historical charm. The décor of the new camp can be described as “the best of nature within an authentic safari design – still with the understated, friendly and intimate Ker & Downey Botswana feel”. Elegant, Classic, Opulent ‘Out of Africa’. A ‘worldly’ sophisticated safari experience. Every possible comfort has been created for – from full solar electricity and a private viewing deck, to yoga mats!

Travelling with children? Throughout the year Shinde Camp accepts children aged seven and over with its family tent consisting of two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.

Shinde Camp has plenty of fantastic opportunities on offer, both water and land-based. Shinde is situated on a private concession which allows guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Shinde’s excellent location in the Okavango Delta ensures a combination of permanent water access for year-round water activities and large dry areas for game drive routes. This blend of environments provides the habitat for a consistently wide variety of wildlife, including the elusive sitatunga antelope and a healthy population of leopards.

Fishing is available throughout the year (apart from in January and February), with excellent bream fishing from May to September and superb chances of landing tigerfish from September to mid-November.
